Our founder built his first greenhouse in his backyard 15 years ago, after a couple of store-bought kits didn't make it through the winter. He figured if no one was building the kind he wanted, he'd build it himself.

Permits depend on your county. The structure has met code in counties across the US. For the foundation, a level pad of compacted gravel works. Many owners pour a footing and add a short cinder-block stem wall to keep critters out.
