If you've ever assembled a large DIY kit - whether it's a piece of furniture or an entire off-grid cabin - you know that what looks easy on paper can quickly become a frustrating struggle. The moment of truth! We were thrilled to watch our customers, the C'mon Homesteading team, complete the last phase of their big greenhouse build, joined by the helpful hands of Mel and Gary from Simple Life Reclaim.
What started as a tough, hand-cramping battle quickly turned into a smooth, rhythm-filled day, all thanks to one unbelievably simple "trick" they discovered. If you’re planning a similar build, you’ll want to bookmark this one!
The essential DIY trick: soap and water
When the team started on the first few glass panels, the process of tucking the rubber seals and sliding the panels into the aluminum frame was painful. Their thumbs were sore, and progress was slow.
Then, they found the solution - a lot of soap and water.
By liberally spraying the rubber seals and the frame channel with a simple soap and water mixture, the panels suddenly slid into place with ease. The "lube," as they called it, completely changed the rhythm of the day, proving that sometimes the biggest challenge in a DIY project is solved with the simplest household item.
All hands on deck: the power of teamwork
Finishing a structure of this size is a marathon, not a sprint. The host gathered the "A Team" to tackle the build on multiple fronts simultaneously.
-
The walls: after discovering the soap-and-water trick, the team quickly installed the remaining wall panels.
-
The roof: they moved to the roof panels and the large sunroofs/skylights, which were installed to ensure the frame held its weight and stiffened the structure.
-
The gable ends: the "A Team" worked on the large, triangular sections at the front and back of the greenhouse, getting those glass panels sealed up.

Overcoming unexpected setbacks
We know that not every delivery is flawless, but that’s where great customer service comes in. Despite the C'mon Homesteading team encountering a few hiccups - namely, some broken door glass and a few missing hinge and bracket parts - they showed impressive resourcefulness. While we immediately prepped and sent all the necessary replacements, the team’s quick thinking shone through. They cleverly used two extra wall panels as a temporary door solution to keep the build moving. At Yourgreenhouses, we always have your back, making sure that a minor setback never derails your project.
The future is green: ready for the fall garden
The most rewarding part is the final walkthrough, where the new greenhouse stands as a beautiful, completed structure. With the build complete, the focus immediately shifts to what matters most: growing food.
The host's wife, Danielle immediately started cleaning and preparing the space, including the raised beds, for their new fall garden. Since Danielle is ready to dive in and needs to learn fast, we have the perfect solution: we’ve just released our new E-book Why fresh tastes better. The beginner's path to real food. The greenhouse is now officially her domain, ready to extend their growing season on the off-grid homestead.
Key takeaway: If you're tackling a panel greenhouse kit, remember the rhythm of the build: Teamwork, lube (soap & water), and a good attitude! The finished structure is a solid testament to a hard day's work.
